AltarTV is an HD video music network & discovery platform that features an array of original content programming. From intimate artist conversations to live concert footage, exclusive off-the-cuff performances, in-studio access, behind-the-scenes video diaries and special fan-only shows & events, AltarTV is re-establishing how fans experience music.
So, what is AltarTV?
AltarTV makes videos about music. We use multiple cameras to shoot live concerts, unplugged sessions, documentary features, interviews and other pieces about music and those who create it. And we’re always developing new show ideas for the future. We also like to promote interesting, worthwhile new bands on our blog and keep our audience in tune with whatever music news is going on.
Who works at AltarTV?
Musicians mostly. We’re also photographers, video editors, journalists and industry people. But we’re musicians mostly, which we think makes sense for the sort of thing we do.
Where are you?
The AltarTV HQ is in Pittsburgh, PA with a second office in Los Angeles. This means we capture a lot of our content in Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Philadelphia, New York, New Jersey and Detroit. But we also travel for things like festivals and conferences.
How long has this been going on?
AltarTV was founded in the Spring of 2011. We started releasing episodes that summer and our first version website debuted in August 2011.
How do I get my band an AltarTV episode?
The way it usually goes is we seek out the artists we want to feature and take it from there, but we’re always looking for new bands to work with. You can send your band’s stuff to info@altartv.com, we’ll keep your information on our radar and if an opportunity shows up, we’ll get in touch.
Are there any genres that you don’t accept?
Good question. As our catalogue shows, we have a focus on rock and indie-oriented genres ranging from metal and hardcore to punk, pop-punk, indie-rock and folk. But we like all sorts of music so we assume you do too. We try to have our content reflect that. If it’s good, any genre works.
Are you the same as Altar Bar?
Ahh, finally. No. We are not the same as Altar Bar, but we understand the confusion. For those not in Pittsburgh, Altar Bar is a local venue where we do a portion of our shoots. AltarTV started as an offshoot of Altar Bar (hence the name) but has long since been an independent entity. Confusion understood, but no.
You guys messed up my band’s info. Who do I yell at to get it fixed?
Yell at our Web Editor, alex.gordon@altartv.com
Do you have an email for general inquiries?
Hell yeah we do. Same as band submission, info@altartv.com.
Do you have interns?
We have internships for Video Editing and Marketing. We’ll make it clear when those applications have to be in, but you can always ask us stuff at that info email. Again: info@altartv.com.
I want to watch AltarTV offline. Is this possible?
Yes, actually you can do that a number of ways. If you have a ROKU Box, you can find our channel on there, with all of our episodes in a pretty awesomely high quality.
All of our episodes are also available through the iTunes Podcast Store (for free). If you search AltarTV on iTunes, you can subscribe to our channel and every time we post a new episode, it’ll download automatically to your computer. Or, just look up individual episodes and download as needed. Or, just go here.
